KH: Norman, this is your fifth book, but the first time you’ve used the genre description “adventure romance.” Considering all that transpires in DOWNEAST LEDGE, I’d say that’s apt. What led you to write in this vein–and how did it challenge you?<\/span><\/p>\n NG: Actually, I didn\u2019t think of a genre until I\u2019d finished the book. I just wanted to let the characters and the place interact and see what happened. Writing a love story\u2014I guess that\u2019s what it is\u2014from a female perspective required\u2014or enabled\u2014me to react emotionally and to be open about the emotions, to oh-my-gosh, think about relationships, which, as a male, I\u2019d rather not do most of the time.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always had some sympathy for all of my characters\u2014heroes and villains alike\u2014and I think that makes them come alive.
