KH: Norman, this is your fifth book, but the first time you’ve used the genre description “adventure romance.” Considering all that transpires in DOWNEAST LEDGE, I’d say that’s apt. What led you to write in this vein–and how did it challenge you?
NG: Actually, I didn’t think of a genre until I’d finished the book. I just wanted to let the characters and the place interact and see what happened. Writing a love story—I guess that’s what it is—from a female perspective required—or enabled—me to react emotionally and to be open about the emotions, to oh-my-gosh, think about relationships, which, as a male, I’d rather not do most of the time. I’ve always had some sympathy for all of my characters—heroes and villains alike—and I think that makes them come alive. Amber helped me to take that a step further.
KH: Well, I am glad you were up for the challenge! Now it’s the reading public’s turn to dig into DOWNEAST LEDGE. What do you want them take with them after they turn the last page?
NG: The feeling that they’ve just met some fascinating people in an enchanting place.
